Restaurant/places to eat in Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre, an IHG Hotel

My friend and I stayed at the Holiday Inn for Christmas holidays. We really enjoyed it! The room is cosy, very clean, there is everything you need. The beds are extremely comfortable, absolutely amazing! The windows overlook a quiet street and there are blackout curtains. Breakfast is terrific, there are options to choose from, there is always a spare table even during the busy hours. We would love to thank the staff helping with breakfast, very helpful and professional, super friendly and polite, especially VJ, he stole our hearts and made our stay extra special, with his warm smile and kind well-wishes every morning, he is a legend! Please, give the man a deserved recognition (and a pay-rise:)). The staff at the desk is also very welcoming and helpful. The location is the best, everything is literally within a walking distance, a tram which goes to the airport stops exactly opposite the hotel. Highly recommend, a good value for money!

I liked the breakfast every morning and it was all freshly cooked and hot, we had the biggest room in the hotel and the amount of space was great , the staff were welcoming and very friendly and I can't thank them enough and the hotel overall has made my first time in Scotland not the last time , I'll definitely be back

Breakfast in Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre, an IHG Hotel

The location of the hotel is just great! It takes 40 mins by tram directly from the airport, and the tram stop is just in front of the hotel. A convenient location for walks to nearby Colton Hill, 5 mins walk to bus station and 10 mins to city centre. A Tesco Express supermarket is nearby. Requested a quiet room as I'm a light sleeper, and we've got one facing behind the hotel. It was quiet, only the room doors closed noisily. It was clean, and the mattress was like heaven. Very comfy. Breakfast was an average bufet, not so tasty, but I really appreciated the soy milk and gluten free bread as I'm on gluten and lactose diet. The personel was mostly forthcoming, always present at the reception desk.

Location was fantastic, Edinburgh is not a big city, nevertheless this hotel is the perfect position to see the city, being less than 10 minutes walk from Princess street and therefore connects you with so much of the top places to see in the city. The room was very nice and comfortable and again exactly what we hoped for, but would recommend keeping an eye on the prices, the mid-week pricing we took advantage of (via booking.com) was fantastic but it rises dramatically for the weekend if you book directly with the hotel. Breakfast was manic to say the least !!!! (see below)

The location of the hotel was perfect, right in the center, very accessible by bus, private transportation, and walking. The room was truly comfortable and spacious, it made me want to stay a bit longer.

Breakfast was typical English. Missing the pancakes/waffles/cinnamon buns found at other HIE hotels. There was a problem with the room caused by sudden water leakage from room above. The management was outstanding in relocating us to another room and compensating for the problem. An unexpected surprise was the Tram to the airport located just outside the entrance to the hotel. That made the return journey a pleasure.

Lobby or reception in Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre, an IHG Hotel

The staff was extremely nice and accommodating. There was a misunderstanding on the type of room we booked and they were able to remedy the issue right away. Generally the room seemed cleaned but when I dropped an earring and was looking for it, the floor hasn't really been vacuumed under the bed; however, that was the only part of the room that seemed unclean. The toiletries smelled nice! Also the bed had plenty of USB plugs and you could turn all the lights off from bed. The location was great. We were able to walk everywhere and catch the tram to the airport right across the street.

Great location. Could walk to every location we wanted to visit. Plenty of shops and restaurants around. Huge shopping mall is basically across the street. Room was a little tight for three people (2 adults, 1 teen) but that is pretty standard for European hotels. Breakfast was perfectly acceptable. Front desk staff was very helpful. The few times I did need a cab, they called for me and one showed up right away. Would definitely recommend.

Our room was nice, though typical European smaller sized room, and had a very nice updated bathroom whichh could have used better lighting. The breakfast buffet was exceptional and well stocked. Staff was great at reception and in the breakfast area. Bed was American queen sized although they stated it as full and was comfortable. The area of our room in the hotel was very quiet. The room had a view of another building which wasn't great. It has very little area for belongings in the room, but we managed. Location is very convenient with the tram stop virtually at the door and train very close by as well. Easy walk to Princes Street or the Royal Mile. For American readers, this hotel is a nice European hotel and is not in any way similar to a Holiday Inn Express value hotel in the US. I don't understand how it is branded that way. I is a much nicer facility. Don't let the name scare you away. We would definitely go back.

Great location, right across from the tram stop at Picardy Place from airport. Many restaurants nearby and shops at St James mall. It’s near the starting point for Hop on/off buses, though gps maps might put you below Waterloo Place. Breakfast is included and starts at 6:30 am, though pasties and coffee/tea are available for takeaway earlier. Reception was very helpful in arranging for taxis and we were able to leave some bags for hold since we’d be returning after a 3-day tour of the Highlands. The shower had a door, so floors weren’t a mess after a shower! Liked the soap and shampoo brand as well.
